With all the research i have done on this subject i seem to find everyone saying that the 22 is a more powerful round. Why do people listen to this crap? The ballistics testing for the standard 22 round test is done with a 25.5 inch barrel to obtain the numbers, the standard length for the 25 is 2.4 inch barrels cause thats what the 25 was designed for! I get 800 fps from my titan with sellier and bellot ammo at 50 grains. enough to put holes in a 55 gallon drum, The most i have seen with a 22 is 1000fps from 32 grains out of a walther P22. I will take almost twice the weight round going a couple fps slower from a smaller gun anyday as a self defense round! __________________ dude, did you just shoot me with a .25? |

A few points: 1) both those examples you gave have exactly the same muzzle energy (71 ft/lbs) here's my favorite calculator: http://www.cruffler.com/BallisticCalculators/BallisticCalculator.shtml
2) .22lr does have a proven record as a deadly round, more so than the .25 . mainly due to the faster/lighter round bouncing around, following bones etc. (neither one is a good stopping round though)
3) .25's biggest plus is the fact that it's center fire and thus often more reliable than rim-fires
4) .22's are soft lead & deform where as .25's are jacketed & don't (good or bad either way on both)
personally, they're a wash with me. actually the gun is more important to me than .22 vs .25. i.e. I'd take a ruger mkI over a cheap .25 any day (or my Colt .25 over a junk .22) Who cares what ppl say, it's what you have confidence in that matters & more often than not your confidence will keep you from having to use a gun anyway

Personally I have a .25 Beretta Jetfire that I have carried for more than 20 years. I love that little gun, holds 9 rounds, very accurate, and hits harder than I expected when I did a day of field testing it against water soaked phone books and such. Being in law enforcement I have personally been to two murders where the victims were killed with a single .25 cal. bullet. Like I said I ALWAYS carry it!! __________________ One can never have enough guns or knives! |

Amen, Trailgunner. I've always thought it was about bullet placement. Not to say size and weight don't matter, they certainly do, but I'm not a two-bit thug, sprayin' and prayin'. I train with my weapons to make sure I get optimum performance weather I'm using our issued M9's or the only thing I've got is a .25 or .32. You hear those stories of rednecks hopped up on meth or gang bangers on pcp absorbing multiple hits and still coming on, but I tend to believe those are exceptions, not the rule. In the few (thank god) street confrontations I've encountered I wasn't up against 300 pound gorillas who could eat .45's like they're whoppers. They were normal size human beings, in one case a young teen, who turned tail as soon as they were on the ground with a gun in their face. I like to think I taught them a valuable lesson and they decided to quit "the life" and stay in school. Hope it's not wishful thinking. __________________ I might not agree with what you say, sir, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.
